Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) has removed the word “Zyn” from a campaign merchandise item after the nicotine pouch brand’s parent company reportedly requested she stop using the name.
In early September, Gluesenkamp Perez added a puck-shaped storage tin to her campaign storefront labeled “GLUE-ZYN-KAMP,” a design that echoed the packaging of the popular nicotine pouch. On Thursday, the congresswoman said she had replaced the item and removed the specific reference to Zyn.
The change came after the parent company of Zyn reportedly contacted the campaign about the use of the brand name on the merch. Gluesenkamp Perez’s decision to alter the product kept the campaign’s visual concept while dropping the trademarked name.
The episode highlights how political campaigns must navigate trademark and intellectual property concerns when creating branded merchandise inspired by recognizable commercial products.
