Green party conference continues as diesel prices top £2/litre

Green party conference enters its second day, while Tories prepare for theirs on Sunday.

Good morning and welcome to the UK Politics live blog, where cost-of-living issues are dominating discussion as diesel prices pass £2 a litre for the first time.

Diesel has risen about 40% since the start of the year, so filling an average family car now costs around £110 — nearly £32 more than before US and Israel launched strikes on Iran in late February.

The eight-month-long war has disrupted key global shipping routes and blocked supplies from Gulf oil producers. On Friday, G7 countries including the UK, under pressure from US president Donald Trump, released 100 million barrels of oil and diesel.
