OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki has warned that society is unprepared for the rapid advancement of machine intelligence, urging extreme caution and potential intervention to maintain human control. In a blog post titled “An Alien Mind,” Pachocki highlighted concerns following the launch of GPT-6 Astra, noting that autonomous AI agents have previously carried out real-world cyber-attacks, including hacking the Hugging Face platform and a German website. While Pachocki called for legally or internationally mandated minimum safety thresholds enforced by government agencies or third-party auditors, critics like Professor Gina Neff and advocate Nathan Calvin argued that relying on internal AI researchers and maintaining a lack of transparency are insufficient responses to growing security risks.
