King Charles III has clarified that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, continue to be non-working members of the royal family and will not perform official duties for the Crown following their move back to the United Kingdom after six years in the United States. In a letter delivered on Monday by the Lord Chamberlain on behalf of the King, it was emphasized that their January 2020 decision to step back from representative duties remains fully respected and unchanged. The communication was dispatched to senior government and military officials, alongside the Duke’s staff, to provide clear guidance as a new royal diary cycle begins. The couple relocated to North America in 2020 amid a public rift with the wider family, but returned late last month with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who are now attending British schools. The correspondence noted that any philanthropic endeavors pursued by Harry and Meghan are strictly private matters, likening their status to that of private citizens maintaining business and charitable pursuits, with all administrative matters handled independently of the Royal Household.
