Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon stated that while artificial intelligence is currently safe for daily use, it could eventually threaten humanity as it grows more advanced. Coxon resigned publicly from Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI app, accusing both Anthropic and its rival OpenAI of gambling with lives through a reckless race to build advanced systems. He noted that AI could gain unconstrained physical control, be misused for bioweapons, or replicate across the internet to evade being shut down. Coxon emphasized the need for government regulation, third-party auditing, and slower development to ensure safety. In response, an Anthropic spokesperson said the company remains transparent about AI risks and builds models with industry-leading safeguards.
