Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito said he “thought about” retiring from the court at the end of his last term amid recent speculation about a possible retirement this year.

In an interview with CBS News, chief legal correspondent Jan Crawford asked Alito whether he had considered stepping down amid what she described as “some pretty intense pressure from Republicans.” Alito acknowledged that he had thought about retiring, but the discussion did not lead to a decision to leave the bench.

The comments come after public and political speculation about Alito’s future on the court. He did not announce any plans to retire and remains an active member of the Supreme Court.
