Former President Donald Trump is urging Senate Republicans to advance legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent, blaming Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) for delaying the bipartisan effort to stop the twice‑annual clock changes.
The House previously passed the Sunshine Protection Act, which Trump has called the “No More Changing of Clocks Act.” Trump has publicly pressed GOP senators to move the measure forward in the Senate so the country would no longer spring forward and fall back each year.
Supporters of the bill argue that keeping daylight saving time year‑round would eliminate the health, safety and economic disruptions associated with switching clocks twice annually. Opponents, including some lawmakers and experts, have raised concerns about darker mornings in winter and potential regional differences in sunrise and sunset times.
Sen. Tom Cotton’s objections have drawn attention because the measure has bipartisan backing in both chambers, leaving Republicans with a pivotal role in determining whether Congress will act to end the practice of changing clocks.
