Hammersmith and Fulham council has warned it may need to raise council tax by as much as 150% to sustain current services after cuts in the government’s new funding settlement.
In a report due to be published on Monday, the Labour-run authority says it faces the “biggest financial challenge in living memory” as central government reductions bite. The council’s cabinet concluded that a 150% rise would add £29.11 a week for Band D households in 2027/28.
The report frames the potential increase as a response to funding shortfalls created by the settlement and signals the scale of pressures facing local services if alternative resources are not provided.
