Two Dead and 35 Injured in Georgia Block Party Shooting

Two people were killed and another 35 individuals sustained injuries after a shooting erupted during a neighborhood block party in southern Georgia, according to local authorities. Law enforcement officers stated that the gunfire broke out during the early hours of Sunday morning in the city of Vienna. Sheriff’s deputies who were patrolling the neighborhood heard the shots ring out at approximately 1:25 a.m. local time. When deputies arrived at the primary scene on Pine Street, they discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The injured individuals were subsequently transported to several different regional hospitals for medical treatment. Two other victims who suffered fatal wounds were located several blocks away from the main Pine Street location where investigators believe the shooting originated. Authorities did not immediately release details explaining why those individuals were found at a distance from the initial site. Both deceased victims, who were pronounced dead at the scene, will undergo autopsies performed by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office. Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls identified the two individuals killed as men aged 20 and 23. Investigators have not yet released public identifications for any of the victims, nor have they shared information regarding a potential suspect or a motive for the violence. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation joined the inquiry at the request of the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
