Ottawa Anti-Immigration Group Sparks Community Backlash

An ethno-nationalist organization known as the Dominion Society of Canada has sparked widespread concern and local complaints in Ottawa following a persistent campaign of posters and stickers promoting its message. The group, which was established as a non-profit corporation in 2025, is actively calling for mass deportations, the restriction of birthright citizenship, and the reversal of multicultural policies implemented over recent decades. Although residents have reported the promotional materials to local authorities, Ottawa police stated that the items reviewed so far do not cross the legal threshold to be classified as hate crimes. Despite the community pushback, the group’s founder and chair, Daniel Tyrie, asserted that their recruitment efforts will continue to expand throughout the city. The organization previously generated controversy in southern Ontario, where community protests accompanied attempts to hold a convention. Critics, including Evan Balgord of the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, argue that the group promotes discriminatory views and targets specific populations by blaming them for broader societal issues. Local residents like Sarah Fraser have expressed strong opposition to the group’s presence in their neighborhoods, urging community members to foster inclusivity and reject messages of exclusion. Meanwhile, Ottawa’s bylaw department confirmed that municipal staff have removed unauthorized posters and stickers whenever complaints are submitted through local reporting channels.
