PepsiCo has recalled roughly 122,000 cases of Gatorade sold across the U.S. because the product contains undeclared dyes, according to a Food and Drug Administration notice. The recall affects 28-ounce bottles of Gatorade Lemon Lime, Gatorade Lemon Lime Zero, Gatorade Orange, and Gatorade Orange Zero that were distributed in 37 states. The FDA stated that these beverages contain undeclared Yellow No. 5 and/or Yellow No. 6, which are artificial dyes used to modify the product’s color. PepsiCo initially launched the voluntary recall on September 25. On October 2, the FDA updated the designation to a Class II recall, indicating that exposure to the affected items may lead to temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects. The impacted Gatorade shipments were distributed to retailers and warehouses across Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin. PepsiCo did not immediately reply to inquiries regarding whether consumers who purchased the affected beverages are eligible for refunds.
