Fire survivors and bereaved have urged the Barnet Group to ‘reconsider’ the appointment of Laura Johnson, who they say pushed for a cheaper contractor and oversaw cost-cutting at Grenfell Tower.
Johnson, who was the director of housing at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) at the time of the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire, has been appointed the permanent director of development and property at the Barnet Group.
The role is a senior council housing post with a reported salary of £150,000 a year. The Barnet Group manages about 13,000 council homes in the borough.
Grenfell survivors and bereaved relatives criticised the appointment as an “outrageous decision” and called on the Barnet Group to reconsider.
